全球最大晶片生產設備製造商應用材料 (Applied Materials)將裁員900到1300人,相當
於總人力的6%-9%,以節省支出。國內半導體業認為,上游設備商出現裁員動作,顯示對
半導體業後市看法趨保守,加上全球半導體業的資本支出未來將看台積電、三星及英特爾
三強,以及18吋晶圓廠設備的開發成本過高,設備商客戶數變少,投資風險變大下,影響
繼續投資意願。
業內人士指出,應材裁員代表整體半導體業的資本支出縮減,以台灣為例,今年只有晶圓
雙雄台積電、聯電投入約百億美元,其他的DRAM、太陽能,以及面板廠則是較過去大幅縮
減,日本市場也大減,在客戶需求減少下,應材的接單也相對不如以往。
另一方面,全球半導體業目前以台積電、三星及英特爾三雄仍有能力繼續投資,但對下世
代半導體技術的投資,就連三雄自已都不敢冒獨自投資的風險,已開始串連結盟,更何況
是設備廠的投資,在客戶數已屈指可數下,設備商獨力投資的情況不再,就像日前ASML邀
請台積電、三星、英特爾入股投資即是最好的例證。
外電消息指出,應材因晶片製造設備業務走軟,且太陽能及顯示器部門也遭遇困難。應材
表示,將透過優惠自願退休計畫及其他措施,預定在明年7月底前完成裁員計畫。應材目
標這項行動,預期將為公司每年節省1.4到1.9億美元支出,但需支付1.8到2.3億美元重組
費用,將在2012會計年度第四季開始計算。
應材今年8月公布,至7底結束的年度第三季獲利銳減54%,因銷售額減少及重組費用拖累
。
當時應材發布的現行季財測,也不如分析師預期。應材聲明表示,公司正採取行動來調整
全球組織及人力,並投資關鍵產品開發能力,以加強業務成長能力。
