三星日前推出新一代旗艦型行動處理器Exynos 9820,出乎意料是採用10奈米製程加強版的8奈米LPP製程來生產,而非目前市場上新版行動處理器如蘋果A12 Bionic、華為麒麟980都採用台積電7奈米製程生產。業界人士揣測,Exynos 9820搭載8奈米LPP製程,若不是三星7奈米製程推出趕不及,就是研發7奈米製程遇上瓶頸。
三星官方表示,相較於過去10奈米製程技術,8奈米LPP製程可使晶片能效提高10%,晶片面積減少10%;至於,三星才宣布量產,內建EUV技術的7奈米LPP製程,除了比10奈米製程減少40%晶片面積,還能大幅降低50%的功耗,並使效能提升20%,由於加入EUV技術,使用光罩數量和生產成本都跟著下降。可見7奈米LPP製程的性能確實大幅超前比8奈米LPP製程。
競爭對手華為麒麟980,採用台積電7奈米製程工藝,性能提升20%,功耗效能提升 40%,晶片面積減少30%;蘋果 A12 Bionic行動處理器,跟前一代A11Bionic相比,速度提升15%、節能效果及圖形處理能力都增加50% ,從A11的2核心提升至8核心,每秒運算速度從6千億次,提升至5萬億次。
「看來三星新處理器Exynos 9820,與目前市場競爭對手較勁,似乎略遜一籌。」科技新報報導,業界人士分析,三星採用8奈米LPP製程技術背後有2大原因,一是,7奈米LPP製程今年10月中旬才宣布量產,趕不上Exynos 9820設計及預計量產的時間;其次,即便7奈米LPP製程已宣布量產,仍有許多問題待克服,不確定因素多,才會連自家的新版行動處理器都不賞臉,反而選擇前一代8奈米LPP製程來生產。
據了解,三星Exynos 9820行動處理器預計將使用在2019年上半年發表的新機Galaxy S10,其處理器因製程性能提升不足的缺點是否透過系統優化來補足,尚不得而知。不過,從晶圓製程的角度來看,台積電在7奈米製程早已領先敵手,三星恐怕短時間內難以追上。
