類比電腦(Analog computer)是有別於數位電腦(Digital computer)的一種計算裝置,
在早期的計算機發展史當中也算具有一席之地,
但後來因為真空管元件與二進位理論的適配性,
讓數位電腦在泛用性上大大超越了類比電腦。
結果就是,現在,提電腦這兩個字,沒人會想到類比模型的電腦去。
小弟最近隨手滑 Youtube 看到這一位科普型 youtuber 的這一篇:

訂題為 "Future Computers will be radically different" 當然是有點標題殺,
但作者整理這部影片的用心讓小弟越來越心虛,
怎麼沒有早點接觸到相關資訊。
概念上講,
影片最後介紹到一間正在打拼(D 輪?)當中的新創 Mythic AI,
他們希望能夠用類比方式做矩陣乘法,
再據以成為眾多 AI 邊緣應用當中做推論(Inference)計算的核心。
材料上,
半導體現在當然還是電晶體當道,
這間新創也沒有驚世駭俗到提新的元件/材料出來。
他們最底層也是用電晶體。
就算一樣是電晶體,
他們不再設個閾值後將電壓值當作 0 和 1 的數位訊號來賦予意義,
而是反璞歸真,
電壓、電流、電阻、... 這些東西在物理宇宙中本來就是各種類比內容,
直接讓它們的意義對應到原本的類比值。
總之,看起來功耗可以做到很低、體積可以做得很小、效能也非常不錯,
再加上蠻多邊緣端的推論本來就不用太準,
那 Mythic AI 的 CEO 受訪是充滿了樂觀與信心。
(不過理論上類比應該可以比數位準?只是很難復現各種物理條件)
與科技工作版的關聯可能略顯薄弱,
不確定有無板友在關心這一塊的趨勢?

留言釣出一個曾經很期待 Mythic AI 產品的人,
但後來他懷疑這間公司是不是不知道怎麼把這個技術引用在對的問題上面。

CB Insight 似乎主要是提供付費服務?不太確定,也不確定怎麼檢索 ...
小弟 google "Mythic AI competitor" 去找,第一個找到這個網站。
目前也還不確定哪些這裡列的競爭者實際上是在做類比電腦的。

除了用設計以類比運算為核心的加速 IC,
看起來他們也還有其他非主流的技術像是 computer-in-memory 和 dataflow。
