Dr. Da Yan from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
is looking for PhD students interested in doing Big Data research.
The students will be fully supported as research assistants.

[Research Directions]
- parallel/distributed systems for graph processing, matrix computations,
machine learning, and stream processing;
- traditional areas of database research such as querying, indexing;
- data mining and machine learning.

[Requirements]
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or related majors.
- Good at programming (C/C++ and/or Java), data structures and algorithms.
- Self-motivated.

[Studentship]
- Tuition fee fully covered
- US$24,000 per year (9 months, not including summer)
- Fellowship opportunities for outstanding applicants

[About the Advisor]
Prof. Da Yan is the winner of Hong Kong 2015 Young Scientist Award.
He obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science from the Hong Kong
University of Science and Technology in 2014, and his B.S. degree in
Computer Science in 2009. He frequently publishes papers in first-tier
conferences such as SIGMOD, KDD, ICDE and WWW, and first-tier journals
such as PVLDB and TKDE. The systems he developed are also actively used by
people in both the academia and the industry.

[About UAB]
UAB was ranked among the top 25 American research universities in the
Top American Research Universities 2010 Annual Report compiled by
The Center for Measuring University Performance. According to the Higher Education
R&D (HERD) Survey conducted annually by the National Science Foundation, in 2010,
UAB ranked 32nd in federally financed R&D expenditures and 36th in total R&D expenditures;
among public institutions, UAB ranked 15th in federally financed R&D expenditures and
22nd in total R&D expenditures. According to the 2012 survey of The Best Places to Work for
Postdocs conducted by The Scientist, UAB was 1st among all public universities nationwide and
