Your dictionaries might not teach you wrong. They just don't teach
certain terms.

這可能是我個人的意見，不過這樣看來，一般用"認同"來翻這裡的identity，
其實沒有什麼太錯的地方。

當然，重點是現在這個地方認同的意義，而我想如果它不是置於一般社會、政
治、文化、或城鄉的脈胳下來談，而是另有所指的話，那麼前後文可能不出來
不行。否則這裡關於identity的討論，在有討論價值的同時，卻不一定有對症
下藥。譬如，原作者所謂的「地方認同」其實是sense of locality？
