Presumably, there is no one single term to exactly translate
the targeted term. Also, the targeted term could be rather complicated
in regard of its nuance of meanings.
In an over-simplified way, I tend to translate the targeted term into
"complex," a term that catches only some shreds of its Chinese counterpart.
By another bold attempt, I would like to translate it as
"an unspoken sense of enmity"; in this way, it may come closer to
an attempted implication.
Besides, it stands to reason, if a bit creaky, that you may as well
just use "knot" in a figurative sense, thereby translating something
like "a knot of hostility."
