movement字意辨析? - 翻譯

在LDOCE做Vocabulary training的時候，看到他寫的定義寫:

1. people working together [countable] a group of people who share the same
ideas or beliefs and who work together to achieve a particular aim.

例子有civil rights/feminist/peace etc movement

也就是我們平常講的 社會"運動"之類的東西
但是在中文的語境下，運動並沒有團體的意思，而是一個活動(activity)

查到幾乎多數的字典，在這種用法下，都把movement定義成"group"
好像比較大的例外就是Webster線上字典，定義成activities
a series of organized activities working toward an objective; also : an organized effort to promote or attain an end <the civil rights movement>

我在和別人討論這個問題的時候
幾乎來參與討論的人都認為movement「不是」group的意思，所以是我弄錯
的確像wikipedia的某些條目下，比較偏向activities
但是也有一些條目中的movement告訴你這是一個group

我個人則是覺得應該有人(而且應該不只一個吧)覺得movement是group
不然不可能那麼多的字典都有收錄這種定義

講了這麼多...我現在的問題是
所以movement在當社會「運動」的運動解時
到底是兩者都有可能，還是只有其中一個比較正確，另一個比較偏誤用?

假設某些情形下group是對的，那麼翻成「運動」是否有誤導的可能性?

很少遇到這麼難判斷的...
