請問very在句子中的譯法? - 翻譯

各位翻譯界的前輩你們好,想請教這段文章中幾個字的翻法:

But it is plain from the evidence, and from the very fact that it was not
sooner adopted and used, that it did not, for years, occur in this light to
even the most skilful persons.

It may have been under their very eyes, they may almost be said to have
stumbled over it; but they certainly failed to see it, to estimate its value,
and to bring it into notice

以下是我的譯文:

但很明顯的從證據看來,並且從事實看來它並沒有被立即使用,
並且好幾年來即便對於具有技藝的人們而言,其被利用的事實並未發生.

未能估量其之價值,並且為其帶來注目.



其中,翻譯時遇上了一些難題,
像是Very,這裡也是”很”的意思嗎?可是和”很”的意思又好像不同.

另外,Sooner 我翻成立即,但不知道是否正確…
be said to 也不知道該如何翻才好(是”聽說”嗎?)
