請教一句翻譯 - 翻譯

其實這一整句很長

出現於今年指考閱讀測驗裡
在做試題分析時 發現這句不是很好翻譯出來

...he (Andrew Carnegie) once wrote, "To continue much longer overwhelmed
by business cares and with most of my thoughts wholly upon the way to
make more money in the shortest time, must degrade me beyond hope of permanent
recovery."

其實文章裡突然插入這樣一句他說過的話
感覺有點怪怪的

我想大概的意思是
"長久為事業煩惱..並且不斷讓自己的心思放在如何於最短時間內賺最多的錢...
為了繼續如此...我必須降低(?抓不到準確的字)自己超越永久復原的希望...."

後面完全不知道在翻什麼 = =
有沒有高手可以提供漂亮的翻譯 切磋一下
